Guillermo Tell (Wilhelm Tell)

Friedrich von Schiller’s Wilhelm Tell is a play about the legendary hero of Switzerland. Published in 1804 and translated into different languages, the work was translated by José Rizal from German into Filipino in 1886 while he was in Leipzig. Rizal used the Spanish name Guillermo Tell in his translation. This version is presented in modern Filipino. Rizal’s translation helped establish an early cultural connection between the peoples of Switzerland and the Philippines during his time.
